Urad dal/uluntham parupu(skinless)
1 cup
Onion/small onion(chopped)
¼ cup
Green chilli(finely chopped)
Carrot (grated)
2 table spoon
Curry leaves (finely chopped)
2 table spoon
Black pepper(crushed)
1 tea spoon
As required
As required

How to make methu vadai:
  • Soak the urad dal for 3 hours and drain the water.
  • Grind it smoothly by sprinkling some water to butter consistency.
  • Add the onion, green chilli, curry leaves, black pepper and salt along with the batter and mix well.
  • Use the plastic sheet or butter paper, grease the sheet with a drop of water and wet your hand. Take a ball of batter and keep it on the greased sheet. (you can also use your hands instead of sheet by greasing oil)
  • Pat it and make hole in the centre.
  • Heat the oil and keep it ready. Carefully shift it into the oil and fry it golden brown.
  • Transfer it to the kitchen napkin.
  • This can be server as a side dish with pongal, dosa, idli ect.
