Appam-Appam batter without yeast/Indian breakfast


Raw rice/pacharisi
1 cup
Parboiled rice/pulungal arisi
½ cup
½ cup
As required
Baking soda
¼ tea spoon
As required

How to make Appam Batter:
  • Wash and soak the rice for 4 hours.
  • Grind it along with coconut and ½ cup of water till it become smooth.
  • Now take hand full of batter and dissolve in 1 ½ cups of water and cook it till it become thick.
  • Allow it to cool and add this with batter along with salt and mix it well.
  • Keep it for 12 hours or more. While you are ready to prepare appam add baking soda and mix well.
  • In the appam pan grease the oil and pour a ladle full of batter. Hold both side of the pan and swirl the pan. Cover it using the lid and cook for 2 minutes. Remove the lid and transfer it to a plate.
  • Serve with Chana masala.

  • While grinding batter you can add a hand full of cooked rice to increase softness.
  • Coconut water can be used for grinding.
  • You can use piece of onion to grease the oil.
  • You can prepare appam in dosa tawa also by closing it by a lid.
