Kuzhal Puttu/Steam Rice Cake

Ingredients:
3 cups
Water
As required
Salt
A pinch
Coconut (grated)
1 cup

How to make puttu:
  • Mix the flour with salt. Sprinkle the water little by little and mix well till it reach the stage when we press the flout between our finger it should get our finger prints.
  • Press the flour like a heap in a plate and cover it. Keep this for 15 minutes and rub the flour in the plate with your hand to remove the lumps.
  • In the cylindrical top of the puttu maker layer the coconut and then layer the flour and so on. Start with coconut and also end with coconut.
  • Boil the water and after that place the cylindrical top, place the lid and cook for 5 minutes. Now its ready to serve.
  • Serve with sugar, banna, papadam/appalam, boiled mung dal, ghee or with Kadala curry(chana masala)

Tips:
  • If the steam cake is cooked and get ready you can see the steam coming out through the lid.
  • Instead of coconut you can also use carrot.
  • You can also use idil maker to cook.
